A full-page profile of Nikki Craft by journalist Sue Burke, published in OUT! magazine, February 1986, page 12, shared to this archive by Donovan Cleckley from his own physical collection. Covers the Rampage Against Penthouse and Hustler, the 1974 founding of WASP, KGWP, the 1980 Stack O'Wheat Murders protest and arrest, the Miss California / Myth California pageant protests, the Cross Your Heart Support Network, and the Preying Mantis Women's Brigade.

Why It Matters

One of the broadest single pieces of independent, contemporaneous press coverage of Craft's activism found to date, connecting threads across more than a decade of her work in one 1986 account. Documents Craft's own stated organizing philosophy of deliberate self-documentation, corroborating a pattern traced elsewhere in this archive. Also documents a numeric discrepancy (the number of women and girls the man who assaulted Craft at fifteen was later linked to.) The reason for that is that he was a serial rapist who died on death row in Florida for killing a woman. The number of known rapes increased from the 1960s thru the 2000s.
